Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 30, 2026
Thrift (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have when you use the Thrift mobile application and related services (the “App”).
By using Thrift, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information from that provider. You also choose a username, and may add a profile photo and bio.
- Listing content. When you list an item to sell, we collect the photos, title, description, brand, size, condition, category, and price you provide.
- Messages and reviews. Content of messages you send to other users through the in-app messenger, and ratings/reviews you leave or receive.
- Shipping information. When you buy an item, we collect the shipping address you enter so the order can be fulfilled. Shipping addresses are stored in access-restricted records visible only to the parties of the order and to us for fulfillment and support.
- Scan photos. Photos you take or select within the App to scan and identify clothing items.
- Support and reports. Information you submit when you contact support or report content, a user, an order, or a review.
- Location data. With your permission, we use your device location to show nearby thrift stores and map features. Precise location is used only while the App is in use and is not stored on our servers.
- Usage data. We track activity such as scan counts (to enforce limits), listing views, and saves to operate and improve the service.
- Device and diagnostic data. We collect device identifiers, push notification tokens, and crash/diagnostic data to deliver notifications and to detect and fix problems.
- Payment card and bank details. Payments and seller payouts are processed by Stripe. Card numbers and bank account details are collected and stored by Stripe, not by Thrift. We receive only limited transaction metadata (for example, amounts, order IDs, and payout status).
- Identity verification (sellers). To receive payouts, sellers complete identity verification (KYC) directly with Stripe. Stripe collects this information under its own privacy policy; we do not store government ID or full Social Security numbers.
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account, profile, and shop.
- Operate the marketplace: process listings, orders, payments, shipping labels, payouts, refunds, and taxes.
- Enable messaging, offers, reviews, saves, and notifications.
- Provide clothing identification and price estimates.
- Find and display thrift stores near your location.
- Enforce our Terms, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the community safe (including reviewing reports and moderating content).
- Communicate with you about your account, orders, and the service.
We share information only as needed to run the service:
- With other users. Your username, profile photo, bio, listings, ratings/reviews, and messages you send are visible to the users you interact with. When you complete a purchase, your shipping name and address are shared with the seller (and the shipping carrier) to fulfill the order.
- Service providers. We share data with the providers below, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Stripe — payment processing, seller payouts (Stripe Connect), identity verification, and sales tax calculation.
- Shippo — shipping label creation and package tracking (uses ship-to/ship-from address details).
- Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication, database, file storage, cloud functions, push notifications, and crash reporting.
- OpenAI — AI analysis of scan photos to identify items and estimate value. We do not send personally identifiable information with image data.
- eBay — comparable-listing lookups generated from scans. No personal information is shared.
- Apple — in-app subscription purchases and Sign in with Apple.
- Email delivery provider — to send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, receipts).
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Data Storage, Retention, and Security
- Account, listing, order, and message data is stored securely using Firebase / Google Cloud.
- We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Transaction and tax records may be retained longer where required by law.
- We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including access-restricted storage for sensitive records such as shipping addresses.
5. Your Rights and Choices
- Location. You can enable or disable location access at any time in your device settings.
- Camera and photos. You can revoke camera or photo access in device settings; some scanning and listing features will not work without them.
- Notifications. You can manage push notifications in device settings and in-app notification preferences.
- Blocking and reporting. You can block another user and report content, users, orders, or reviews directly in the App.
- Account deletion. You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, listings, saves, and associated personal data, subject to records we must retain for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes. Pending payouts are settled before a seller account is closed.
- Data access. Contact us to request a copy of your data.
6. Children’s Privacy
Thrift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users under 18 may use Thrift only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. You must be at least 18 to sell on the marketplace. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the “Last Updated” date above.
